Steampunk and Lilacs

The weather was gorgeous this weekend! It was the perfect weekend to attend two festivals.

The steampunk fest was really fun. What’s not to love about throngs of people dressed up in costume? Especially when one of the most popular items to don are kick-ass goggles? There were steampunk vampires, desert nomads, ladies in Victorian hoop skirts holding parasols. There were lots of vendors and live bands…plus a bunch of calliopes, which made me feel like I was at a carnival. This was the most ornate one, created for Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee.

Today I went to the annual Lilac Sunday at the Arnold Arboretum. Most of the lilacs had already bloomed and were withered and brown. Thanks, global warming. The only lilac bushes still in bloom were the dark purple varieties. I was just happy to smell any lilacs. They remind me of home.
