I saw Ben Gibbard perform last night. He’s the lead singer of Death Cab for Cutie and has just released a solo album. It was just him and a guitar. And a piano. He plays both so expertly. Not only did he play songs from his new album, but he also played some Death Cab songs and opened and closed the show with Postal Service songs! I thought I had died and gone to heaven.
Ben was chatty and told cute, mundane stories. It was the perfect concert for a Sunday night, because, as Ben said, it was a “gentle show…a musical massage.” He laughed at himself for saying “musical massage.” That’s a fitting description, though. My friends and I left the concert feeling very relaxed and happy. Ben, you can muscially massage me anytime!
