Call Me a Traitor

I’m boycotting Independence Day this year. The latest SCOTUS rulings were the last straw. We should be expanding freedoms, not taking them away! Last time I checked, it was 2023. Hundreds of millions of Americans do not feel safe or welcome in their own country at the moment (women, people of color, LGBTQIA+ folks).

Many folks, myself included, are feeling powerless, hopeless, voiceless. All I can think of to do is to get out and vote, and encourage others to vote. We need to vote for politicians who will protect our freedoms. And we need to support those who are no longer protected.

You won’t find me waving a flag or eating a hamburger or singing “God Bless America” or watching fireworks today. Nope. Not feeling an iota of pride about being an American. But I’ll write some postcards to voters in swing states and donate some money to worthy causes, and that will make me feel hopeful about the future again.
