How lucky I feel to have never known war. Although the various wars that have taken place over my lifetime have weighed heavily on me at times, I have never had any family or friends active in the military. I’ve never known war firsthand.
Allen and I learned a little more (relearned? I know we learned about the world and foreign wars in high school history classes…) about the world and foreign wars when we visited the American Heritage Museum recently. I read about a WWII tank re-enactment taking place at the museum in a local tourism email. The museum also has a collection of planes and cars that would be open for viewing on the day of the re-enactment, which enticed us even more.
The museum proper has a variety of wartime tanks, motorcycles, and planes from a number of different countries. The planes and race cars are in a cool octagonal building, and the vintage automobiles live in a separate barn.

I’m grateful to the staff and volunteers for sharing their historical knowledge with the public. I was sorry to miss a talk given by a 97-year-old WWII veteran. I’m sure he had so many stories.

If you’re a history buff and live in MA, I recommend this museum. It hosts a number of special events throughout the year! The event we attended was family-friendly as well; there were kids’ crafts and food trucks.
