Have you heard of Nift? Years ago, it had a heyday in Boston. It’s a company that allows other companies to send their customers deals for local products, services, and restaurants (and sometimes online retailers) as a thank you. You get a code for the Nift website, put in your ZIP code, and are then offered a few choices, such as Mediterranean food or a yoga class or eyebrow threading. And then you receive a coupon for the option that you chose.
I hadn’t received a Nift offer in years, but I recently received one after buying concert tickets on Ticketmaster. I chose a perfume company, which ended up being a Paris-based online retailer called Scently that sells “room parfum.” The coupon was for one of its sample kits. I think I paid $5 or $10 for shipping.
Being a traveler, I chose the “International Collection” with scents inspired by Brazil, Japan, London, Madagascar, and Paris. The perfumes are organic, cruelty-free, and paraben-free. Since I’m an anglophile, I was excited for the London scent. It’s a mix of star flower, sugar tangelo, and agarwood. It smells like cotton candy to me, which does not necessarily conjure thoughts of London. But it’s still a nice smell. The Paris scent seems to align better with its locale: star flower and sandalwood. I haven’t been to the other three countries, so I won’t know if the scents are on the money or not. But all in all, using the perfumes will be a nice change to my everyday.
