Somehow I found myself signed up for the New York Times Wirecutter emails at work. Once in a while when I’m in a shopping mood, I’ll buy something that the reviewers recommend. It’s a good site for unique gift recommendations.
I bought a unique gift for myself recently—a Pop Chart scratch-off poster. I chose “100 Essential Movies” because I have watched AFI’s Top 100 movies for my birthday list. So I thought I would have most of the items covered. I haven’t looked at every single square yet, but I will have at least a few new movies to watch. I’ve avoided No Country for Old Men because I can’t stomach much violence. But it’s on the poster, so here we are.
I’ve scratched a few off with a penny. They make you work for it; it’s more difficult than scratch tickets. I’m going to try another type of coin to see if it works better. There’s a bit of a residue around the edges, but hopefully it won’t be too visible when the poster is hanging on the wall. (And yes, I know that I missed some spots, so I’ll have to take off my glasses and do some fine tuning…)
