Even though I love the beach and warm weather, I’ve only been to the Caribbean three times. I guess I was busy traveling to England with my mom for many years. I went to Aruba for my 30th birthday, Bahamas for my 40th, and now Dominican Republic for my 50th.
I was supposed to go to the DR in July with my college friends. But then my mom died suddenly a week before the trip. I really wanted to go during my 50th year, so Allen and I went a few weeks ago. We stayed at the same adults-only, all-inclusive resort where my friends stayed, TRS Turquesa in Punta Cana.
We really enjoyed staying at an all-inclusive resort. I wasn’t sure if I would like staying on the resort grounds and not exploring the area. But after the year I’ve had, I welcomed the option to stay in one place and just sit at the beach.
We only stayed for three nights, so just as we were getting into the relaxation groove, we had to leave. But I’m grateful we went. Although the beach was a bit crowded, it was still a serene setting.

The staff were friendly, and the food was decent. We enjoyed the breakfast and lunch buffets the most, but we had fine dinners at Italian, French, and Dominican restaurants.

I need to think about visiting the Caribbean more frequently…
