Oprah Recap

Now I can say that I’ve been in the same room as Oprah Winfrey. The taping on Friday was really fun. It was a hodge podge of segments, so it didn’t really feel like her usual show. There was a segment with Dr. Phil, Dr. Oz, Nate Berkus, and Suze Orman. Dr. Phil told us that we all needed “game-changers” to energize ourselves…he shaved off his moustache, which he has had for the past 38 years. It makes him look 10 years younger.

There was a mother-daughter fashion show with some random moms, including Susan Lucci, Cybill Shepherd, and Jane Seymour. Creative director Adam Glassman, of Oprah’s magazine, told everyone to go out and by nude-colored shoes, sequin scarves, and to wear crazy shoes with cargo pants.

Oprah talked for a few minutes with Christina Aguilera. And she then performed a song, complete with smoke and pyrotechnics. While we were waiting in line to get into the show, Sam and Jen were interviewed for Christina Aguilera’s website. It was pretty hysterical.

About Oprah. It seemed like she had been out until 4 am the night before and had been chain smoking. She didn’t seem like her energetic self. But she was witty, and seemed sincere and genuine when she talked to the audience during commercial breaks. It was very interesting to watch an entourage of makeup people come out and redo everyone’s faces during commerical breaks. No wonder people look perfect on TV. They are getting their makeup redone every 10 minutes.

Thanks to Jen, Sam, and Stacey for going to the taping with me. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

I visited some college friends ON Long Island after spending the rest of the day walking around Central Park with Sam and Stacey. My three friends in the NYC/LI area have seven kids between them. At one point we were all together. It was like a whirlwind…When we first go together, I fed off all the kids’ energy, but after a couple of hours was completely exhausted. Props to all of the mothers out there! How do you do it 24/7?

Happy Mother’s Day to all. Have to go call my mom now.
