I went up to Gloucester yesterday with Linda, Mary, and Kathy. We toured the Beauport Sleeper-McCann House, which is a Historic New England property. It is a beautifully and quirkily decorated house. Henry Sleeper, the original owner, was a self-taught interior designer. Every room is unique and filled with interesting tchotkes. Many rooms have breathtaking views of Gloucester harbor. You can see the Boston skyline from the backyard. Just lovely.
I bought a reproduction of “The Bostonian’s Idea of the United States,” which was hung in one of the rooms. It’s pretty funny.
After our tour, we went downtown and had a nice seafood lunch. I noticed a daily drink special for $5 margaritas, and you would have thought I just won $10K in the lottery. Toto, we’re not in Boston anymore!
After lunch, we walked down Main Street and got some ice cream. It was one of those perfect summer days that made me feel glad that I live in New England. It’s another nice, hot day today…but my apartment looks like a tornado ran through it and back again. So clean I must…
