Being an Anglophile, I love having afternoon tea. I love the tea; I love the food; I love the pretty china and white tablecloths and serene ambiance.
A friend and I took a day trip to Rockport, MA, the other day. Before our outing, I visited Tripadvisor.com, as I always do before a trip. We were talking about eating some good fried seafood there, so I started reading restaurant reviews. That’s when I stumbled upon #8, Heath’s Tea Room. My friend and I were intrigued but unsure if afternoon tea would fit into our plans. We decided to wait and see how we felt once we arrived in Rockport.
Well, we decided we were in the mood for some tea, and luckily seatings were available. The tea room is a 15-minute walk from the hustle and bustle, which we were grateful for. There was too much hustle and bustle for our taste, because the weather was gorgeous. The tea room was perfect: peaceful with beautiful place settings, artwork on the walls, soft background music. I tried a ginger Darjeeling peach tea, which was lovely. We each had an apricot scone and six small sandwiches, which were delightful. We were so impressed with the scones that we bought some to take home with us.

We left saying that we would try re-creating the sandwiches at home, especially the tuna with dill and cucumber with cream cheese.
Rockport has always been one of my favorite places to visit, and now it’s even more favorite because I know there’s a stellar tea room there. This was the perfect last-birthday-list-item-before-my-birthday…I’m heading to Rhode Island in a few days for my 19th annual birthday trip to a place I’ve never been. I’m about halfway through my list, so there’s still a lot of new things to try and do on the agenda for the year.
