I went to Savannah for my birthday this year. It’s been on my list of places to go, and I thought that the haunted Gothic atmosphere would suit my current mood (first birthday since my mom passed).
It was a quick trip and was on the hot and rainy side, but Allen and I enjoyed ourselves. We did a lot in 2.5 days. We took a hop-on, hop-off trolley tour so we could see all of the main sites. We also visited a historic house and a couple of art museums. This piece about the passage of time, La Parabola, spoke to me.

We also visited a creepy museum dedicated to serial killers, vintage circus acts, and haunted items. Allen was enthralled.

We had some great meals—shrimp and grits, scallops, etc.—and local treats like pralines and Leopold’s ice cream. I absolutely loved the layout of the city and was not surprised that it was a “British planning city.” There are 22 squares with beautiful trees and monuments and plenty of benches. All of the ones we visited were peaceful and quiet, like a mini-oasis in the middle of a city.
A bonus was seeing his cousin and aunt, who live a couple of hours away. It was great to have some family time. Have you been to Savannah? What did you enjoy?
