Today is the 20th anniversary of the debut of Twin Peaks. It is my favorite TV show of all time.
The first time I saw it was at a theater cast party. I was a freshman in high school. My friend Daisy and I were embarking on an illustrious high-school career as prop women. Freshman year we did 42nd Street. Our biggest undertaking for that show was making a bazillion oversized dimes wrapped in tin foil.
I remember watching the show in my kitchen. I had to sit very close to the TV with the volume down low, because the rest of the house was sleeping by the time it came on. I loved the characters…loved that half of what happened didn’t make sense.
I had all of the books…I lost The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer at some point, but I still have The Autobiography of Dale Cooper, and Twin Peaks: Guide to the Town. I treat those books like priceless treasures.
This weekend, I will sit down with some coffee and cherry pie, and watch some episodes. Thank you, David Lynch and Mark Frost for the gift of Twin Peaks.
